Hwabaraty launches fourth album: Umqakezeleni

Hwabaraty is a Bulawayo musician and this month’s AFRLUENCER MAN, we had a brief chat about his musical journey and upcoming album scheduled to launch at Esdudla Shops in Njube this weekend (September 1 2019).

This is what he had to say about the event:

Umqakezeleni is a 12-track album of self-discovery and celebration of all the hard work that has been put into the music we make.  Umqakezeleni is an album of encouragement for me to keep making more music. This is my fourth album, and I have been nominated for a number of awards and I’m yet to win one. So in Umqakezeleni, I have discovered my sound, what it means to me and the fans.

My genre is alternative music which combines maskandi, kwaito and Hip hop so there will be tracks across the genres. There are collaborations with local artists such as Madlela, Sku one of my music icons, Just Percy who got an award for Best production, Indonsakusa (The Morning Star), Patrick Mabhena, Kundiimidzo and international artists such as Suka from Spain.

My mentors, Jeys Marabini, Ten District in Australia who have been following my music since I started, have applauded my work in this album and indicated that I have pushed myself further and there’s a lot of improvement in this album. That’s why we are celebrating with this big event

We are going to have a five star event on the street, in my community in Njube. I’m taking this album to the people as we expect a big crowd for the event. This is where I grew up, and I want to change the notion that we as artists are known in other countries than in our communities. This is a free show, no one is supposed to pay for entry.

Hwabaraty album launch

A lot of planning has gone into this event, and we expect a lot of promoters to attend the event. Our aim is to shine a light on Bulawayo music, and there are a lot of talented artist, some of which will be performing on the day. Make a date with us this Sunday, come in numbers to celebrate with us.
