Gibson Mangwendedza and Probity Moyo, are Bulawayo artists popularly known as GibsonxPronto. The duo has appealed to Bulawayo artists to create more international standard music so as to gain more exposure and curb the current limited exposure in the international community. Speaking to the Afrluent Media crew, the local soul artists emphasized on the fact that there is not much exposure for Bulawayo artists, a situation which needs to be changed with immediate effect.
What got you into music?
Pronto: It was the love of music. I grew up listening to old school house and soulful music, then I thought to myself, why not try to make that music I always listen to?
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Pronto: We create soul music, at times transcends to afro pop music, even house music but the heart of our music is soul.
Take us through the stages that you go through to create your songs.
Pronto: We create our music based on feelings. It depends whether I’m feeling love, feeling happy or in a weekend mood at the time. I come up with basic instrumentals that create a certain mood or feeling then send them to Gibson who then puts in the lyrics and we get to help each other back and forth up until we come up with something nice.
When and how did you decide to be Gibson x Pronto?
Gibson: It was back in 2015 when Pronto heard me perform at the National University of Science and Technology choir. He was impressed with my voice and suggested that I sing to a certain beat, hence the creation of our first single Thanda. Since then we have been releasing a lot of songs which seem to be earning us positive reception.
If you were to change anything in the music industry, what would it be?
Gibson: The exposure is limited. I feel like in Bulawayo there isn’t a lot of platforms for musicians and there isn’t much support from our communities because currently the exposure is a little bit limited.
One message for your fans?
Gibson: We love you guys so much, thank you for supporting us. At times though we have nothing to give you, you guys continue to support us either way. We really appreciate. Â
Gibson x Pronto are Bulawayo born artists who released their first single ‘Thanda’ in 2015. Since then up to date, they have been releasing chart topping singles like ‘Heart Attack, Boo Got Me, among others. Besides the music career, Gibson and Pronto are both into Real Estate.
